Luling — The St. Charles Parish Library will be hosting two events at the beginning of June to kick off its “Literary Elements” Summer Reading Program for Adults.

Book Buzz, a presentation by Sharon Parker of Random House Publishers, will be held at 10 a.m. June 3 at the East Regional Library, 160 W. Campus Drive in Destrehan, and again at 2 p.m. June 3 at the West Regional Library, 105 Lakewood Drive in Luling.

Parker will discuss upcoming titles being published by Random House and give attendees a sneak peak at sure-to-be bestsellers. Everyone will receive copies of select books, tote bags and handouts free of charge.

The library will host its first after-hours event for adults, After Hours @ the Library, from 7 to 10 p.m. June 13 at the West Regional Library. This event is cosponsored by the Friends of the St. Charles Library.

The creators of the “Kentucky Sweets” cookbook, author Sarah Baird and illustrator Chase Chauffe, will discuss the creation of their cookbook. There will also be a Planetarium expo, book sale, refreshments and door prizes.

“We are very excited about this event,” Lauren Pitz, public relations and adult programming librarian, said. “We are in our third year of having a summer reading program for adults in addition to our programs for children, tweens and teens. This after-hours event is just one more way to remind everyone that the St. Charles Parish Library has events and services for all ages.”

Attendees must be 18 or older, and registration is requested. RSVP by calling the West Regional Library at 985-785-8471 or by visiting the library’s calendar of events at

All St. Charles Parish Library events are free and open to the public. Registration in the summer reading program is not necessary to attend events. More information, including a calendar of summer events, can be found at, and a summer event guide will be available at all St. Charles Parish Library locations in the coming weeks.
