Rebels’ season ends in semifinals

SULPHUR — A wild season fittingly ended with a wild game for Riverside Friday.

The Rebels playoff run came to an end in the Class 2A semifinals, No. 2 seeded Kinder besting No. 2 seed Riverside 8-5 at McMurry Park.

The Yellow Jackets advanced to the 2A championship game, which will be played Saturday against Catholic New-Iberia.

Kinder scored five first inning runs, but the Rebels responded to tie things up with five runs of their own in the second inning, highlighted by Tyler Gauthier’s two-run triple and T.J. St. Pierre’s game-tying RBI single.

But an RBI double by Kinder’s Bryce Baker and a two-run single by Drew Richard put Kinder up 8-5 in the bottom of the second inning. That score held for the rest of the day.

The teams combined for19 hits over the first three innings of play.

Brandon Hymel started the game but was chased early by Kinder. Sean Mohon took the loss for the Rebels, allowing three runs over four innings.

LSU commitment Dylon Poncho earned the win for Kinder, going the complete game and striking out seven.

The Rebels finished the season 20-10. Kinder improved to 27-7.
