RESERVE — A 20-year-old local man first report killed as a result of gun violence Tuesday is alive and out of surgery as of Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office reported the man, whose name has not been released, was shot Tuesday and initially reported by authorities to have died that evening. The sheriff’s office corrected the report Wednesday morning, and a representative from the office said the victim underwent surgery Wednesday.

Sgt. Dane Clement said authorities did not have an update on the victim’s condition post-surgery.

The gun violence touched off at approximately 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Reserve, where two people were shot. Deputies are investigating the shootings that occurred on East 13th Street.

The Sheriff’s Office said the 20-year-old victim is from East 12th Street and was taken to University Hospital for medical treatment for a gunshot wound to his head.

Authorities, in a press release Wednesday morning, said the second shooting victim, a 15-year-old male from East 13th Street, was taken to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital for medical treatment for a gunshot wound to his lower leg. His condition is unknown.
