A seat belt violation led to a car and foot chase as deputies spent part of Saturday morning pursuing a St. John the Baptist Parish man, authorities said.
A St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop near the intersection of U.S. 61 and Elm Street in LaPlace, a release from the department said, because the driver of the car was not secured by a seatbelt.
“The driver refused to stop, and his reckless driving forced several vehicles from the roadway,” a release said. “The driver led deputies on a pursuit before stopping on Carmichael Street.”
The chase took place at approximately 10:56 a.m. Saturday.
After a brief foot chase, deputies apprehended the driver, identified as Olonzo M. Narcisse, 27, of Carmichael Street.
He is charged with three counts of aggravated flight from an officer, three counts of aggravated assault, resisting an officer, entering and remaining in forbidden places, reckless operation, two stop sign violation, signals required and safety belt use.
Narcisse is free after posting a $45,500 bond. Narcisse has been arrested 36 times in St. John the Baptist Parish since September 2003, sheriff’s office officials reported.
