Students of the River Re—gion Chamber of Com——merce’s Young Entrepreneurs Aca–demy, an innovative program that guides students through the process of starting their own real business, recently took a field trip to Finishing Touches Salon and Spa in LaPlace to learn proper business etiquette and the ins and outs of owning a small business.

Helen Loupe, the owner of the salon, welcomed the students and took them on a tour of her salon. She told them her own start-up story and talked about the challenges of being an entrepreneur. She advised students on what they could expect in their business and how to handle issues when they arise.

Rhonda Louque, a consultant with BeautiControl and a River Region Chamber of Commerce board member, also gave a special pre–sen—-ta-tion about business etiquette. She taught the students the importance of making a good first impression in business. Louque gave the students pointers about wearing appropriate, professional colors and proper mannerisms. Students practiced their introductions with Rhonda, YEA! Program Mentor Evin Stein, YEA! Program Manager Annette Wray and Executive Director of the River Region Chamber Chassity McComack.
