A positive review of a positive movie

In the last five years, I’ve maybe averaged attending one movie a year. The reason is that the industry has given the public what they want in entertainment. Evidently violence, vulgarity, sex and science fiction are what turn people on who seek to be amused.

For the past few weeks, Jeanne’s been after me to go to the movie, “God’s Not Dead.” I felt that I didn’t need to be convinced that He’s alive because of all God has blessed me with.

This past Tuesday morning, I asked Jeanne to find out where it was playing and the time. The Hollywood Cinema on Esplanade Avenue had the first showing starting at 11:45 a.m. so we decided to go.

I read that it was a story about a young Christian man who was a freshman in college and was challenged by the professor, an atheist, that God was a myth. With approximately 100 students in the class, all but the young Christian said that God was dead.

The movie was about being different and bold enough as Christians to stand up for our faith. It was a message about being a witness and sharing the Good News of salvation with the people we meet.

The Scripture that came to mind is found in Matthew 10: 32-33, “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.”

For the nonbeliever, it will make you think and maybe search for the truth. For the Christian who doesn’t need to be convinced that God’s alive, it will maybe wake you up and make you realize what an awesome responsibility we have as an ambassador for Christ.

The movie was great and I would recommend it to anyone, Christian, back-slider or non-Christian.

What would you do if faced with that situation?
