LAPLACE – St. Charles Parish Public Schools celebrated the performing and creative arts of its students at the sixth annual Arts Awareness Festival held in March.

St. Charles Parish public school students performed theatrical, dance and musical selections throughout the day on multiple stages. In addition, attendees had opportunities to create a variety of 2D visual art. Paintings and other visual art were on display and for sale.

Performances included selections from “Cinderella” by R. J. Vial Elementary School students, performances by the Destrehan High School and Hahnville High School winter guards and songs and scenes from “Annie Jr.” by Harry Hurst Middle School students.  Dance performances were also offered by the Allemands Elementary Cajun dancers and the stomp team from Destrehan High School. Musical selections were performed by kindergarten through high school choirs, soloists, bands and wind and brass ensembles.

The Arts Awareness Festival was recently awarded the Magna Award by the National School Boards Association for its success in reaching out to the parish at-large with a message and example of how genuinely important the performing and creative arts are to students and the community.
