LAPLACE – Redistricting plans continue to develop for the St. John the Baptist Parish School Board.

Beginning today, the three redistricting alternatives drawn up by South Central Planning and Development Commission will be on display at all four of St. John Parish’s public libraries.

At the April 3 St. John Parish School Board meeting, Josh Manning of South Central Planning announced the three alternatives were ready for review and asked the board to call for a public hearing regarding the options. The school board announced that a public hearing will be called on April 15 at 5 p.m. for the redistricting plans.

In other meeting news, the 2014-2015 school calendar was approved and a new job description was introduced.

The new job, titled supervisor of school improvement, will be paid for with federal grant money, said Superintendent Kevin George. The addition of this position is possible by the consolidation of two previous federal coordinator positions.

The main responsibilities of the supervisor of school improvement will be to support school improvement efforts of the district and build the instructional capacity of each St. John Parish principal and teacher.

The next school board meeting is scheduled for April 15 at 6 p.m. at Godchaux Grammar Cafeteria, 1600 River Road, Reserve.
