LAPLACE – This weekend, a three-day fundraising garage sale will be held by Perry’s Posse at the Garyville Gymnasium, 127 GYO Road, off of Church Street.
Perry’s Posse was launched after Perry Levet’s death in January following a year-long battle with leukemia. The goal of the organization is to assist cancer victims in the River Parishes.
The garage sale will be held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. daily. Sweets will be sold daily, and a
pastalaya lunch will
be sold on Sunday
starting at 11 a.m. Each plate will be $4. All proceeds will be used by Perry’s Posse to assist families.
Tanya Roccaforte, Levet’s godmother, said Perry’s Posse will focus on meeting the needs of two different
families each month. She said Levet was so thankful for all of the support
he received when he was ill and that he wanted a way to help pay back the community.
The group wants to do “anything that can make their lives easier,” said Roccaforte. Cutting yards, buying theater tickets for a fun night out, assisting in buying groceries and buying a family a restaurant gift card are examples of some of the things Perry’s Posse has done so far. Roccaforte said the group wants to do anything they can to put a smile on people’s faces.
“We will raise money to help families in Perry’s honor,” said Roccaforte.
Roccaforte teared up when she spoke about the community’s support.
“It’s just overwhelming,” she said. “Just knowing the community is supporting us means so much.”
