LAPLACE – The National Weather Service indicates that short periods of strong to severe showers and thunderstorms will impact St. John the Baptist Parish this morning and again this evening into Saturday morning.

The main threats are heavy rainfall, damaging winds, frequent lightning and possible large hail. The thunderstorms will likely produce rainfall amounts of one-to-two inches with locally higher amounts possible.

The accumulation of persistent rainfall may cause street flooding in low-lying areas. Please be patient while the water is pumped out through the drainage system. Residents should use caution when going outside and when on roads.

The St. John Parish Emergency Operations Center is monitoring weather forecasts and Public Works crews are on call in the event problems occur. Residents should report any issues or concerns to 9-1-1.

Stay tuned to local weather stations for weather updates.
