LAPLACE – The St. John the Baptist Parish Utilities Department and Curtis Environmental Services Inc. will be conducting smoke testing in Edgard over the next week. Tested areas will be from West Third Street to Columbia Road.
The testing, which began March 20, will continue through Friday, March 28, weather permitting.
The testing is being done to investigate the condition of the wastewater collection system.
During the testing, smoke will appear in defected areas of the line, allowing the department to identify openings and leaks in the system. Smoke should not enter any homes or businesses unless a line is defective.
The smoke is non-toxic, low odor, creates
no fire hazards and leaves no residue.
Prior to beginning the testing, a flyer will be placed on the door of every house and building included in the tested area.
If smoke is detected in your home, please call 9-1-1. If the
smoke is a result of the testing, please notify a crew member in the area.
Testing will be conducted from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
For questions or concerns, contact the Utilities Department at 985-652-9569.
