LAPLACE – Vacherie native and two-time NFL Super Bowl Champion Corey Webster visited the St. James Parish Library in Vacherie on Thursday and read “The Cat In The Hat” to the nearly 50 children in attendance.

The library celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday

and Read Across America Day on March 13. Seuss’ birthday is March 2, but because of Mardi Gras holidays the library event

was moved to a later date.

Before he read the book, Webster thanked the crowd of nearly 100 children and adults in attendance for coming out. He told the crowd he was honored to be there and that he remembered going to the library as a child for reading events.

“It’s very important to me to invest in the future of our next generation,” said Webster. “God has given me a huge platform, and I want to take advantage of that.”

Webster and Dr. Seuss share a birthday, March 2, and the library staff had a birthday cake in their honor.

After the reading, craft activities were available for the children in attendance and Webster signed autographs.
