LAPLACE – St. Charles Parish Public Schools will celebrate the performing and creative arts of its students at the sixth annual

Arts Awareness Festival on Saturday, March 22.

The festival will take place 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Professional Learning Center, 12727 U.S. Highway 90 in Luling.

St. Charles Parish public school students will perform theatrical, dance and musical selections throughout the day on multiple stages. In addition, attendees will have opportunities to create a variety of 2D visual art. Paintings and

other visual art will

be on display and for sale.

Performances will include selections from “Cinderella” by R.J. Vial Elementary School students, performances by the Destrehan

High School and Hahnville High School winter guards and songs and scenes from “Annie Jr.” by Harry Hurst Middle School students.  Dance performances will also be offered by the Allemands Elementary Cajun dancers and the stomp team from Destrehan High School. Musical selections will be performed by kindergarten through high school choirs, soloists, bands and wind and brass ensembles.

Concessions will be available throughout the day, and door prizes will be awarded. Festival attendees will see examples of how students, teachers and the community of St. Charles Parish produce, perform and value the arts in the parish’s public schools.

The Arts Awareness Festival has recently been awarded the Magna Award by the National School Boards Association for its success in reaching out to the parish at-large with a message and example of how genuinely important the performing and creative arts are to students and the community.
