LAPLACE – Two public hearings have been scheduled before St. James Parish Council meetings on March 19 and April 2 at 6 p.m. to discuss the future land use plan and development ordinance.

On March 19 a public hearing will be held at the St. James Parish Courthouse Annex, 2631 Louisiana Highway 20 in Vacherie. On April 2 a public hearing will be held at the St. James Parish Courthouse, 5800 River Road in Convent. These hearings will precede the council meetings scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on each night.

The St. James Parish Council met in a brief meeting Wednesday night and scheduled the two public hearings.

In other matters discussed at the meeting, the council approved a resolution authorizing St. James Parish President Timmy Roussel to advertise and accept bids for improvement to the Lutcher Town Hall. Damages to the town hall incurred in 2008 during Hurricane Gustav include a leaking roof. The plan is to replace the existing roof with a brand new metal roof.

In personnel news, Amira Baloney was appointed as the District 2 representative, Victoria Rocquin was appointed as the District 1 representative and Tevin Gros was appointed as the District 7 representative to the St. James Parish Youth Commission.
