Steven William Finckbeiner, beloved husband of Connie, adored father to Stevie (Lea), Kristin (Jay), Danny (Codi) and Kati (Trevor), proud papa to Klaire Fontenot and Elle and baby girl Finckbeiner, beloved brother to Fay St. Germain, brother-in-law to Rudy St. Germain, Danette Taliancich, Germaine and David Carter, Mark Taliancich and Michael Taliancich (deceased), son of Beverly and Ferdinand Finckbeiner (both deceased), son-in-law to Nana and Dan Taliancich (deceased), nephew to Minnie Finckbeiner, uncle to numerous nieces and nephews, was taken too soon by a murderer on Feb. 25, 2014. He was only 63 years old.

Steve was owner of LaPlace Feed & Supply for more than 28 years. He, Connie and their children spent all of their days together from the day the feed store began. He loved his family more than life, and he lived his life his way, which was for his family. He was an avid racing pigeon fancier, and he and his friends began the first and only racing pigeon club in LaPlace. He won many races and had the trophies to prove it. He was a songwriter, music composer and wonderful guitarist. Playing the guitar was his favorite pastime. He played every day to himself and family and friends. He was a loyal friend to many, both new and old. He loved to talk politics, and he loved a friendly debate. He loved helping people, and the volume of people he helped is too many to count. Like his mother, he loved to teach things to people from gardening to chicken husbandry to caring for dogs, cats, horses and nearly any animal one can imagine. Like his father, he was a loving family man. He created four beautiful, awesome children whom he loved more than life and who will miss him every day. He and his sister, Fay, were as close as two siblings could be. He loved her with all of his heart. He and Connie were married for 38 years this past Feb. 7, and never will a day go by that she will not miss him by her side and being with her 24 hours a day. He will forever be the love of her life and she his.

A celebration of his life was held at the family’s home on Wednesday, March 5, 2014.
