LAPLACE – The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office is now accepting applications for anyone interested in becoming a reserve deputy.

To qualify for the Reserve Academy, applicants must be 21 years of age, have no criminal record, be of good moral character and have received a high school diploma.

The Reserve Academy consists of 90 plus hours of training and will take approximately five months to complete. Classes will be conducted at the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Academy during weekday evening hours, and there will be at least four training sessions conducted on Saturdays.

Training topics will include legal aspects, officer survival, police investigations, traffic services and patrol operations.

The next Reserve Academy is scheduled to start on June 10, pending enough participation. The department requires a minimum number of registered participants to conduct the class, therefore interested parties are asked to submit their applications prior to April 15.

Applications can be obtained from the Sheriff’s Office website at www.stcharlessheriff.org or by contacting the Personnel Department at 985-783-6237.
