RESERVE – Seven people signed up

for health insurance at a recent Affordable Care Act infor-

mational session and sign-up event that

was held at the St. John the Baptist Parish Library Reserve Branch.

The Democratic Parish Executive Committee of St. John the Baptist Parish along with St. John Parish Councilman Lennix Madere Jr. and Councilwoman Jaclyn Hotard hosted the free event, which 20 people attended.

Affordable Care Act navigators were on hand to help residents navigate the health insurance marketplace and find affordable coverage.

The navigators explained to the

crowd that health insurance rates were now tied to income level in lieu of a tax credit. Therefore, people in lower income brackets would pay less for their coverage because

of government tax credits.

Today is the deadline to enroll for health insurance coverage that starts on March 1.
