RESERVE – Business students attending South Central Louisiana Technical College who find themselves strapped for money will benefit from a recent donation to their department.

PJ’s Coffee recently donated 25 flash drives to the Business Office Administration Department at SCLTC.

Tom and Robin Lewis, owners of the PJ’s Coffee houses in both LaPlace and Destrehan, made the donation after a casual conversation with Penelope Freeman, department head of business at SCLTC. The conversation had nothing to

do with a donation,

but when Freeman talked about the financial challenges that many students faced in acquiring books and supplies, the PJ’s owners knew that they could help.

Talking about the college’s students, Tom Lewis said, “We hire a lot of students in this area, and we knew we could do something to help.”

Freeman said the flash drives would be used to create a lending library in which students could use the drives for a semester and then return them so that other students could use them in future semesters.

The flash drive donation was highlighted at the Feb. 6 Chamber Perks event hosted by the River Region Chamber of Commerce. Chamber Perks is a monthly breakfast networking event held at different sites on the first Thursday of every month, and in the month of February it was held at SLCTC in Reserve.
