LAPLACE — St. Charles Catholic absorbed a tough 9-0 district loss at home to University on Thursday night, but the Lady Comets earned their second win of the season last week in a 7-0 victory over Edna Karr.
Corrin Drexel scored a season-high three goals to lead the Comets in the win. Karlie Englade scored two goals, while Julia Torres and Kaitlyn Lemoine each added one.
“It was a chance to play another team on our level, and we had some opportunities to start stringing together passes,” said first-year St. Charles coach Travis Trepagnier, guiding a rebuilding SCC program. “We were really able to hold on to the ball and play a possession game. They made maybe two runs at a goal, and that was basically it.”
For Drexel, the three goals put her at a team-leading six goals on the season. Englade scored her third and fourth goals against Karr. Both are underclassmen and will return next season.
“Corrin has a strong shot. She was sick that night as well,” said Trepagnier. “She played through it. Karlie had a great night too. The girls that scored in that one have been our top players throughout the year.”
SCC now stands at 2-12 overall this season.
Trepagnier said that communication has improved as the season has gone on and, with one match left — a rivalry clash with district rival St. Charles Catholic — he wants to see a strong effort for his team to go out on.
“Obviously, we’re looking for the win, always,” said Trepagnier. “But what I’m gonna ask of them is to just go out and give a great effort. Leave everything on the field and leave with no excuses. All out hustle and effort, and give (Riverside) a good match.”
That match is set for 5 p.m. at St. Charles Monday. It will be the Comets’ senior night.
