LAPLACE – On Jan. 23 a LaPlace man led Kenner police on a car chase and eventual wreck after he stole

a vehicle. This was the second time in two months that the suspect stole and wrecked a car.

At approximately 7:15 a.m. on Thursday morning, the Kenner Police Department received a telephone call from a victim in the 3200 block of Ole Miss Drive in Kenner. The caller reported that their vehicle, a red 2007 Toyota Camry, had just been stolen.

In an attempt to warm the vehicle, the victim started the vehicle and left it unattended. Upon leaving the residence, the victim discovered the vehicle had been stolen.

At approximately 7:16 a.m. Kenner Police Officers spotted the vehicle as it entered onto Interstate 10 westbound at Loyola Drive.

The driver of the vehicle was later identified as Antoine Reid, 22, of LaPlace.

Reid refused to pull over for marked police units and lead officers on a chase that ended at mile marker 206 in LaPlace, where Reid lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the wooded area.

Reid attempted to flee on foot and was captured and bitten by a police K-9. Reid was transported to a local hospital to be treated for dog bites.

Reid will be charged with theft of a motor vehicle, aggravated flight from an officer, resisting an officer, no driver’s license and parole warrants. Reid remains in custody and no bond has been set.

Reid was paroled in July 2013. Reid was on parole for the crimes of simple burglary and illegal carrying of weapons until May 1, 2016.

Reid has prior convictions for possession of marijuana, three counts of simple burglary and felony carrying of firearms.

At the time of this incident, Reid also had a warrant outstanding for parole violations, and in addition had just been arrested on Dec. 11 and was out on bond.

On Dec. 11 Reid was arrested while in possession of a vehicle that had been reported stolen from Jefferson Parish on Dec. 5. Reid crashed that vehicle as well.
