LAPLACE – After a rain delay on Monday, construction at Airline Highway and Belle Terre Boulevard in LaPlace began bright and early yesterday morning.

The Department of Trans portation and Development will implement alternating northbound and southbound right lane closures on Airline Highway between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. for road widening. One lane will remain open in each direction at all times. Reduced speed limits will be posted, and motorists may experience a 15-minute delay at times.

Construction is in relation to a nearly $2 million project at the intersection.

The project scope will include a double left turn lane from southbound Airline Highway to Belle Terre Boulevard and will include drainage work, widening of the existing roadway, construction of curb and gutter and a curbed median.

The construction will take place across approximately 2,000 feet, beginning west of Elm Street and ending approximately 700 feet east of Belle Terre.  The roadway will be overlaid and restriped within the project limits.

It is not known at this time if the rain delay on Monday will delay the completion of the first phase of work slated for this week.
