LAPLACE – Relay for Life preparations are in full swing in the River Parishes with a meeting and four fundraising events scheduled for the next couple of months.

The 2014 St. John Parish Relay For Life will be held on March 29 at the St. John Community Center from noon until 3 a.m.

The next team leader meeting will be held

on Jan. 15 at 6:30 p.m.

at the St. John the Baptist Parish Library. Any team that comes and signs up for the event on Jan. 15 will receive free registration, which is normally $150. 

The deadline for teams to sign up for Relay for Life is Feb. 2 for team members to receive a T-shirt.  Anyone interested in starting a team can contact Randie Bailey at Rbailey@stjohn.k12.la.us.

Bunco Night will take place on Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. at Riverlands Country Club. Only 100 seats are available for this event. Seats are $30 each or $100 per table of four.

New this year to fundraising efforts will be a Leave Your Footprint On The Path To A

Cure 5K and One

Mile Fun Run.  The runs will take place at the park behind the library on Louisiana Highway 51 in LaPlace on Feb. 15 at 8 a.m., with registration beginning at 6:30 a.m.

The registration fee for the 5K is $20 to register now until Jan. 31, $25 to register from Feb. 1 until Feb. 14 and $30 to register the day of the race.  The registration for the Fun Run is $15.

Registrations submitted before Feb. 5 will receive an event T-shirt at check-in. All registration forms received after Feb. 5 will not be guaranteed a shirt.

Registration for the runs can be done online at www.active.com.

Finally, there will be a Survivor Brunch held on Feb. 22 at 9 a.m. at the VFW Hall, 205 W. Fifth St. in Laplace. Survivors eat free, and guests are $10.
