RESERVE – Applications are currently being accepted online for enrollment in John L. Ory Communication Arts Magnet School for the 2014-15 academic year.

St. John the Baptist Parish residents in kindergarten through eighth grade are eligible for admission to the school through a lottery system.

Applications will be accepted online at http://www.oryapplicant.net through March 28 at noon. Applications will not be accepted after that date, and the online site will no longer be available after noon. For those who do not have computer access at home or through the St. John the Baptist Parish Public Library, John L. Ory computers will be available between 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. each week day.

The list of all students’ names that will be entered into the lottery selection will be posted for review in the school auditorium on April 4. This will allow parents the opportunity to be sure their child has been entered into the lottery in the correct grade and that his or her ethnicity has been correctly entered.

Student selection will be made by a random software lottery process on April 16 at 5 p.m. in the school auditorium. All kindergarten applications will be drawn and either accepted for admission or placed on a waiting list.

All applications for grades 1-8 will be drawn and placed on a waiting list. Acceptance will be decided at the close of the 2013-14 school year and determined by the number of openings once promotion of the current student population is final.

Parents are invited but not obligated to attend.

Siblings of current students must submit both an online application and the supporting documentation that proves the claim of sibling preference prior to the close of the application process on March 28. Applications for siblings will not be accepted without the supporting documentation. After submitting an online application, a copy of the confirmation receipt must be attached to the supporting documentation and submitted to the school office. In addition, the child’s name on the application must match the name on his birth certificate and Social Security card. The names on the proof of residence must match the parent/guardian names listed on the application. If not, then a notarized affidavit proving St. John the Baptist Parish residency is required. A copy of the affidavit can be downloaded from the website.

After a child is accepted into Ory, parents will be required to submit all supporting documentation prior to their child starting school. Supporting documentation will include birth certificate, shot record, Social Security card, first and second nine weeks report card for students in grades 1 through 8 and two proofs of residence for St. John the Baptist Parish (cable bill, utility bill, landline phone bill, current driver’s license or voter registration card).

All students applying for admission in fifth grade will be required to pass the fourth grade LEAP test in the spring or summer test administration. Parents will be required to provide documentation that this requirement has been met for their child to be admitted should he or she be selected. Registration for this test administration can be found on the St. John the Baptist Parish Public Schools’ website at www.stjohn.k12.la.us.

Applicants are invited to visit the school for a tour at 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 13 or March 13.

For more information, call the school office at 985-651-3700 between 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.
