RESERVE — St. John the Baptist Parish School Board President Clarence Triche has called for a special session School Board meeting to be held today, Jan. 8, at 10 a.m. at Godchaux Grammar Cafeteria, 1600 Louisiana Highway 44 in Reserve.

The meeting agenda lists a protest of disaster management request for proposals and a protest of disaster management request for quotations.

In mid December the School Board approved Superintendent Kevin George’s recommendation of All South Consulting Engineers of Metairie to oversee disaster management of the parish schools that need reconstruction after flooding because of Hurricane Isaac.

Both East. St. John High School and Lake Pontchartrain Elementary were flooded extensively in the storm.

George has made school recovery his top priority since he started as superintendent in July. Before his appointment, little had been done regarding rebuilding the schools.

George explained that after that decision was made regarding the disaster management company there was a 14-day period in which firms that did not get picked could file protests regarding the decision. Two firms filed such complaints.

Both of those firms have been notified of the meeting and are expected to attend, although as of Monday he had not received confirmation from either one.
