LAPLACE – Charles Kennedy, a local business owner, was recently awarded the “Outstanding Entrepreneurial Leadership Award” by Congressman Cedric L. Richmond, U. S. representative for the 2nd Congressional District.

Richmond represents an area along the Mississippi River from New Orleans to Baton Rouge, encompassing parts of St. John the Baptist Parish.  Richmond hosts an Annual Small Business Summit and Expo in New Orleans to provide small business owners an opportunity to interact with each other and representatives of government in an effort to facilitate the growth and development of local small businesses. Each year, Richmond selects one recipient who demonstrates creativity in problem solving, leadership and vision in operating and growing their company for the Outstanding Entrepreneurial Leadership Award.

Kennedy, who is a resident of LaPlace, was recognized at a recent Parish Council meeting by Parish President Natalie Robottom for his achievements as an entrepreneur.

“I commend Mr. Kennedy, an Army veteran, on his achievements in his business, his community and his country. This award is a testament to his hard work and belief in the American dream,” said Robottom.

Kennedy has worked in insurance, employee benefits and related service industries for more than 37 years. He is a graduate of Xavier University and is a certified financial planner. During the early years of his career, Kennedy served as a training officer for a Reserve Unit at Delgado after returning from active duty in the United States Army. He currently serves as president/CEO of the The Kennedy Group, specializing in employee benefits, property and casualty insurance services and other ancillary products and services for public and governmental entities and commercial accounts.
