Woman’s screams thwart attempted robbery

LAPLACE – On Tuesday, Dec. 17, at 1:01 p.m., St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the parking lot of the Riverlands Shopping Center in the 1400 block of West Airline Highway in LaPlace for the report that someone heard a female yell for help and saw two juveniles fleeing.
The victim, a 46-year-old female from LaPlace, told detectives that just after she got into her car two juvenile male subjects opened her car door and produced a handgun. They demanded that she give them her belongings. When the victim yelled for help, the two perpetrators fled. They were wearing black shirts and jeans. No one was injured.
Responding deputies canvassed the area looking for the perpetrators to no avail.
