3 charged with damaging mailboxes

LAPLACE – On Saturday, Dec. 14, at 1:19 a.m., St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 2100 block of Colonial Drive in LaPlace for the report of mailboxes being damaged.
The complainants provided deputies with a description of the vehicle that was involved in the incident and the direction of travel. A deputy in the area saw a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle provided by the complainants. The deputy stopped the vehicle and identified the three occupants.
During the investigative stop, the deputy saw a baseball bat
used to damage the mailboxes and a flag from the 13th green at Belle Terre Country Club. Deputies determined nine mailboxes were damaged in the area.
Deputies arrested Christopher Smith, 20, Brian Hahn, 18, and Evan Mullins, 18, all of LaPlace, and charged them with 10 counts of simple criminal damage to property and possession of stolen property. Bonds were set at $11,000. All three offenders bonded out on $1,100 cash bonds.
