RESERVE – Lake Pontchartrain Elementary and East St. John Elementary schools will start their Christmas break one day early to allow teachers to move supplies onto LPE’s new temporary campus.
Classes for those two schools only have been cancelled on Friday, Dec. 20. LPE’s temporary site, located at ESJE, will reunite at one location students and staff who have been spread across multiple campuses since Hurricane Isaac flooded the school in August 2012.
The temporary site consists of 15 new modular buildings containing more than 30 classrooms, offices and restrooms, new covered walkways, a new 40-car parking lot and a new playground. The temporary site is located at the rear of the ESJE campus adjacent to Joe Keller Memorial Stadium.
Faculty members will use the Dec. 20 date to move their classroom items onto the new site. Starting Dec. 21, St. John the Baptist Parish Public School District maintenance personnel, assisted by trustees from the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office, will begin moving the rest of the required equipment onto the site.
“We want to thank Sheriff Mike Tregre for helping us with this enormous task,” Superintendent Kevin George said.
Students and staff will report for classes at the new temporary site when they return from the Christmas and New Year’s break on Jan. 7.
