LAPLACE – Hahnville overcame an injury-riddled regular season to advance to the regional round of the Class 5A playoffs, but one final wound – the loss of starting quarterback Dylan Keller – proved too much to overcome in a 42-14 loss to Barbe in Boutte Friday night.
Keller left Friday’s game in the second quarter with Hahnville trailing 7-0. Barbe opened things up from there, Austin Broussard hauling in a touchdown reception to double Barbe’s lead to 14-0. A HHS (6-6) fumble on a kickoff return led to qaurterback Kennon Fontenot scoring on a 10-yard run to make it 21-0, and a Trey Quinn 15-yard touchdown run pushed the lead to 28-0 at halftime.
Lynn Simmons and Mikquel Chest each scored touchdowns for Hahnville in the second half on runs of 16 and 2 yards respectively.
Barbe (10-2) advances to face Acadiana in the Class 5A quarterfinals next week.
