Destrehan finishes Ruston in second half, 34-7

LAPLACE – Ruston pushed Destrehan more than most have this season, but in the end, the Wildcats maintained course in their quest for the Class 5A state championship.
DHS captured a 34-7 victory to advance to the 5A quarterfinals, where the Wildcats will face Dutchtown.
Will Mathews led DHS (11-1) with 16 carries for 163 yards and a touchdown. Donovan Isom completed 8 of 21 pass attempts for 111 yards and a touchdown, while running for another.
Alfred Smith led DHS in receiving with four receptions for 54 yards.
Destrehan led 10-0 at halftime before opening things up with a 24-point second half.
The lone Bearcats touchdown was a defensive score. The Destrehan defense has yet to allow a point this postseason.
Ruston finished 8-4.
