Marijuana smell tips off deputies

LAPLACE – Earlier this week a routine traffic stop turned into a drug bust in
St. John the Baptist Parish.
On Nov. 12 while working a traffic enforcement detail on Interstate10 in LaPlace, St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies stopped a vehicle for speeding. Depu-ties smelled the stench of marijuana on the driver and emitting from the vehicle. Upon a subsequent search of the vehicle, narcotic detectives recovered 3.39 pounds of marijuana, worth $6,800, 150 grams of mushrooms, worth $2,140, drug paraphernalia and more than $25,000 in cash.
The driver of the car, James Reuter IV, 25, of Baton Rouge, was arrested and booked with distribution/manufacture of schedule I CDS and possession of drug paraphernalia. Reuter remains in custody in lieu of a $104,500 bond.
