LAPLACE – Lutcher bounced back after a tough loss to Plaquemines, taking care of Belaire 56-6 in District 6-4A competition.
LHS defensive back Dylan Recotta’s interception return for a touchdown was matched by a Belaire second quarter return score that left the teams tied at 6-6.
But from there, it was all Bulldogs. Dorian Semien scored the game’s next two touchdowns, one on a run and one on a pass from Christian Matherne. A Destin Porter touchdown run made it 27-6.
After a Lutcher safety, Matherne dialed up Gavin Englade for a 36-6 Lutcher halftime lead.
Jontre Kirklin ran for a score and threw for another – to Trey Harrison – in the second half. Nick Duhe rushed for a score as well.
Matherne finished 8 of 15 for 86 yards and two touchdowns.
Lutcher finishes district play 3-1, likely locked into second place barring an upset of Plaquemine by Tara next week. The Bulldogs moved to 4-5 on the season.
Belaire fell to 2-7 overall, 0-3 in district play.
