Child killed by vehicle in St. Charles

ST. ROSE – A toddler was killed Wednesday when he got caught beneath a moving dump truck in St. Rose.
St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne reported that at approximately 4:15 p.m. a 3 year old was struck by a dump truck. The 40 year-old driver of the dump truck turned into a St. Rose parking lot and began to back up into his parking spot. At that time he noticed a woman in his side mirror screaming for him to stop.
When the driver exited the vehicle, he learned that Mark Washinton III had accidentally gone underneath the side of the dump truck between the front and back wheels. The child was killed instantly.
The victim, who was being supervised by an adult family member, was riding an electric dirt bike with training wheels on the sidewalk and turned into the grass where it is then believed he couldn’t stop and went underneath the truck.
The coroner pronouced Washington dead at the scene.
Toxicology reports are pending.
