CONVENT – At approximately 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, a 9-1-1 dispatcher call center received a call for an explosion at the Nucor Steel plant in Convent.
Members from the St. James Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness, the Sheriff’s Department, fire departments and Acadian Ambulance responded to the call.
According to parish administration, the scene is secure, there were no injuries, and everyone is accounted for. No chemicals were involved, according to the statement. The incident appears to have been caused by a structural failure.
