LaPlace man charged after fleeing stop

LAPLACE – St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a LaPlace man on Monday evening when he refused to yield to a traffic stop.
Officers attempted to stop a vehicle on Louisiana Highway 44 in Reserve for a broken taillight. When the deputy initiated the emergency lights on his patrol car, the driver continued driving and refused to stop. The deputy followed the car to LaPlace as it traveled 15 mph over the speed limit. The driver turned on Phoenix Lane and stopped the car in the 100 block and fled on foot.
Deputies arrested the driver, who was identified as Shawn Fisher, 43, of Cambridge Drive in LaPlace. According to reports, Fisher had a notable history with parish law enforcement. He has been arrested 81 times since January 1989.
Fisher was booked with proper equipment required on vehicles, signal required, vehicle-entering highway from private drive, two counts of general speed law, reckless operation, flight from an officer and resisting an officer. At the time of his arrest, Fisher’s bond was set at $5,250. He has since been released from jail.
