LAPLACE – St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives captured a Reserve man on Tuesday in connection with a July shooting in LaPlace.
Carlshane Dennis, 24, of Rosenwald Street in Reserve was arrested and was booked with attempted second-degree murder and possession of stolen things over $1,500. Dennis is the third subject to be arrested in the investigation and has been arrested 14 times in the parish since October 2006. He remains in custody on a $275,000 bond.
According to the initial report, deputies responded to the 1700 block of Creole Street in LaPlace for the report of gunshots on Wednesday, July 24. As they arrived on the scene, they were advised that a 24-year-old Reserve man had arrived at the River Parishes Hospital emergency room with a gunshot wound to the chest area. The victim was transferred to a New Orleans-area hospital for treatment and was listed in guarded condition at the time of the shooting. Detectives eventually pegged Dennis as another suspect in the incident. Deshennen R. Alexander, a suspect who was previously arrested in the investigation, allegedly confronted Dennis in July about a stolen vehicle he was in. The two exchanged gunfire, and Dennis was wounded.
Alexander, a resident of Gretna, was arrested on July 27 and booked on two counts of attempted second-degree murder. He remains in custody on a $500,000 bond. Oliver Young, 19, also of Gretna, was arrested on Aug. 20 and booked with two counts of accessory after the fact to attempted murder. He has since bonded out on a property bond.
