LAPLACE – St. John the Baptist Parish officials and The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced two road closures to begin this morning in LaPlace.
The parish and HHP Construction will complete road repairs and replace concrete panels on Ormond Boulevard on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at the intersection of Airline Highway between the Shell gas station and Capital One Bank.
The southbound left turn lane and the northbound right turn lane at Ormond Boulevard will be closed. No through traffic will be allowed on Ormond Boulevard from Airline Highway to the Shell station. Both lanes of traffic in each direction on Airline Highway will remain open at all times. Signs will also be placed to notify motorists in advance. Vehicles can detour to Carrollwood Drive. All businesses will have access to their store fronts and parking lots.
Construction is expected to be completed on the evening of Friday, Sept. 13, weather permitting. All fire departments, emergency personnel and schools have been advised of the repair schedule. Garbage and mail service will be uninterrupted during construction.
In conjunction with the parish, DOTD also announced closures of the left turn lane on U.S. Highway 61 southbound and the right turn lane on U.S. 61 northbound at Ormond Boulevard, beginning 6 a.m. on Wednesday, and ending 5 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 16.
There will be no through traffic allowed on Ormond Boulevard from U.S. 61 to Oak Allee Drive during the above times. Both lanes in each direction of U.S. 61 will be open to traffic at all times.
Motorists may bypass the construction zone on Ormond Boulevard from U.S. 61 by driving to Carrollwood Avenue north, then to Dominican Drive east and onto Ormond Boulevard. There will be no restrictions on oversized loads along US 61 at this location.
Motorists are encouraged to use caution as some areas may become congested.
