LaPlace juvenile charged in cellphone robbery

LAPLACE – A 16-year-old was the central suspect in the armed robbery of a cellphone in LaPlace last week.
On Friday, Aug. 23, St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the report of an armed robbery. According to reports, the 19-year-old female victim told deputies that she was walking on Greenwood Drive in LaPlace and talking on her cellphone when a male subject walked up to her and asked to use her cellphone. When she refused to let him use it, he snatched the cellphone from her hand and then pointed a handgun at her when she tried to get the cellphone back.
He fled on foot down La Salle Drive.
The victim gave detectives a description of the perpetrator.
Over the course of the investigation, detectives indentified the perpetrator as a 16-year-old juvenile. A judicial court ordered arrest warrant was obtained for the offender. He was arrested on Aug. 29 and charged with armed robbery and armed robbery with a firearm. He was detained at the Assumption Parish Juvenile Detention Center.
