LAPLACE – St. John the Baptist Parish officials announced that The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for the parish until 7 a.m. on Sunday, June 7.
A strong storm system will move across the region during the next two days producing numerous showers and thunderstorms through the weekend.
Rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are possible for the area through Saturday night. Heavier rainfall is possible on Sunday. Low-lying areas that experience heavy rainfall from thunderstorms in a short period of time may experience street flooding. Dial 911 to report high water or any emergencies so calls may be directed to the appropriate department and a record established.
Residents are asked remove debris from catch basins and storm drains during breaks in rain events to assist with drainage due to anticipated heavy rains through Sunday. Avoid placing debris that may impede drainage or become projectiles in ditches, drainage canals and on the side of the road. Residents should use caution when going outside or getting on the roads.
