Arthur Sigirmondo Fionda, 86, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2013.
He was the beloved husband of the late Theresa M. Fionda, father of Diane Abbondante (Richard), grandfather of Lisa Horzelski (Shan) and Kristen Abbondante, great-grandfather of Talyn Horzelski, son of the late Ferinando and Celestina Fionda, brother of Ernest Fionda, Pearl Davis, Evelyn Silver, Irene Durbin (Jim) and the late Mark and David Fionda, Germain Fosina, Claire Fionda, Yolanda Robbins and Adele Logan and brother-in law of John Elwood. He also had numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
The family would like to especially thank Dr. Andy St. Martin, Dr. David St. Germain and staff of the South-east Louisiana War Veterans Home for the love and support of Arthur.
Arthur married the love of his life, Theresa, in 1951 and lived in New York/New Jersey until their retirement in LaPlace in 2003. Arthur graduated from Pace College, served in the U.S. Navy as store keeper third class from 1944 to 1954. He received the Victory, American Theatre and Asiantic-Pacific Medals. He than went on to work in the Insurance Industry and retired from Crum & Foster Insurance Co. He was a grand knight in the Knights of Columbus in New
Jersey. Arthur enjoyed golfing, bowling, watching the Yankees, playing the lottery and bingo at the veterans home. Arthur had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother and prayed the Rosary every day.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend services. Visitation will be held at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church, 1809 Greenwood Drive, LaPlace, on Saturday, June 1, 2013, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Port Hudson National Cemetery in Zachary. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Bingo Fund or Masses offered in his name are preferred. Arrangements are by Millet-Guidry Funeral Home of LaPlace.
