Come celebrate America’s heroes

Memorial Day is one of my favorite holidays. It’s a day Americans set aside to remember those who most people have forgotten.
What actually is Memorial Day? To most people, it’s just another holiday – a three-day weekend – a time to celebrate! Should we celebrate more than remember? No, that’s not why Memorial Day was established.
On that day, we are to commemorate the people who died in all the different wars – who unselfishly gave their lives to protect our freedom. The Bible says that no greater love has a man that he would lay down his life for his brother.
On Friday, May 24, the public is invited to attend Get High on Life’s 15th annual Memorial Day breakfast. The ceremony will begin at 8 a.m. at the Knights of Columbus Home on 346 Fir St. in LaPlace. The “Brady Bunch” will again prepare breakfast to begin what will be a celebration honoring America’s real heroes.
Many men and women have served in different branches of the military. Some returned as heroes. Others returned unnoticed and were never given credit for their service. Let’s never get so wrapped up in our special interests that we neglect to celebrate Memorial Day.
The program will include patriotic music by Dr. Roy Curuba, Judge Sterling Snowdy, Kevin Aucoin and others. Stories of men and women who served their country will be told, and these heroes will be recognized.
The public is invited and encouraged to attend, especially the VFW and American Legion members and their families.
May God have mercy and bless America.
