LAPLACE – This month CN crews began an eight-week maintenance program along the Baton Rouge subdivision between Kenner and Geismar, Louisiana. As part of the project, CN will replace about 44,000 railroad ties and improve more than 100 railroad crossings along a 40-mile stretch through St. Charles, St. John the Baptist and St. James parishes.
Beginning today, CN crews will be working in St. John the Baptist Parish, covering more than a mile a day.
Although this work is not included in the maintenance work, an emergency road closure was issued for today at Louisiana 3217, locally known as Bayou Steel Road, (between Louisiana 628 and U.S. 61) at the railroad crossing until 3:30 p.m. today for emergency railroad repairs. Other closures moving forward are not foreseen. However, additional notifications will be released if emergency closures are necessary.
DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
