EDGARD – West St. John will be looking to bring home some state championship hardware next week, as five Ram athletes advanced to state after placing in the top three of Wednesday’s Class 1A regional.
The Rams’ 4×100 relay team captured the regional championship with a mark of 43.7 seconds.
That team consists of Quan Scott, Jeremy Jackson, Justin Bethancourt and Kylum Favorite.
Scott will return to the Class 1A state championship meet after finishing second in the regional long jump, posting a mark of 21-9. Scott finished second at last year’s state meet in both the long and triple jumps.
Josh Borne rounds out the Rams’ state prospects after placing third in the 400 with a time of 54.2.
As a team, the Rams tied for fourth place at the regional.
West St. John coach Antoine Carter said that he has high hopes for his athletes’ prospects.
“I think Quan should win the long jump,” said Carter. “I can definitely see that for him. The 4×100 team ran what I believe is the fastest time (in the state) going in, so we feel pretty good about that too. And Josh is going to compete. He has a real chance to place as well.
“We’re all very excited about it. It’ll be great to get up there and make a run at some great things.”
