Arrests made in weekend murders

LAPLACE – The suspects in the two shootings that happened last weekend were successfully captured this week.
Lorenzo Porter, the suspect of the late-Saturday-night shooting of Jamond James, was arrested on Wednesday. Porter was booked with second-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, a bench warrant and an attachment. His bond is $271,562.90.
Demond Baker turned himself in to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office on Thursday afternoon. Baker was wanted for the Sunday morning shooting of Ralph Thomas. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives issued an arrest warrant for the 33-year-old on Tuesday regarding the murder.
