The Riverside Academy golf team hosted a nine-hole match with Destrehan at Belle Terre

Country Club on Monday, besting the Wildcats with a team score of 178 to 196.

The Rebels’ Deuce Wallace posted the lowest score of the day, logging a 40 – that topped the next best score by four strokes.

Riverside golf coach Roy Aubert said that Wallace is showing a lot of ability, and the freshman has the potential to get a lot better going forward.

“Deuce is really hitting the ball well from tee to green, but his putter is not his best club in his bag at this time,” said Aubert. “He could have easily posted a score of 37 in this match.”

Cory Costanza posted a score of 44, tying Destrehan’s Joey Robicheaux for the match’s second best score. Chase Wallace and Austin Glidden each shot a 47 for Riverside.

Triston Wenturine posted a score of 49 for Destrehan. Brent Rome posted a score of 51 and Branden Naquin shot 52 to round out the Wildcats’ scoring.

Last week, the Rebels came out on top of a five-team match at Riverlands Golf and Country Club, topping St. Charles Catholic, Holy Cross, Central Catholic and John Curtis.

Wallace again led all players with a score of 42. Sean Flynn and Costanza each shot 43 and  Glidden shot 57 to round out the Rebel scoring.

Aubert said he was happy with the way his top players scored, especially considering the difficulty of getting in practice time earlier in the season due to rain and wet conditions.
