One of the objectives of the St. Charles Parish Finance Department is to provide citizens and public officials with easy-to-understand yearly reports outlining local government’s audited revenues and expenditures.
The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada recently awarded its Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to St. Charles Parish for that report for 2011. The Comprehensive Annual Financial Report also includes comments from auditor Carr, Riggs and Ingram LLC, a rundown of accounting policies within the department and data on property and sales tax collections.
This marks the 15th consecutive year the parish has received the GFOA Certificate of Achievement, which is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.
“We’ve had such a long run with this recognition because of the steadfast and talented work of the employees of the Finance Department,” St. Charles Parish Finance Director Grant Dussom said. “We are proud to be able present accurate and timely information about parish finances well beyond budget time.”
The CAFR was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate the parish’s financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.
