LAPLACE – Amid the Mardi Gras festivities, this weekend saw the arrest of four suspects wanted in connection to the Jan. 11 murder of Michael McCray and attempted murder of Leslie Reed in St. Rose. On Friday, members of the St. Charles Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office and the New Orleans Police Department, executed multiple search and arrest warrants in St. Charles Parish and New Orleans.
Deputies arrested Janerio Dewey, 23, of St. Rose, and Ramon Vinnett, 23, of Boutte, on Friday. After a notice was issued by the St. Charles Sheriff’s Office asking for assistance in finding the remaining two suspects, Joshua Avery, 24, and Calvin Avery Jr., 19, both of St. Rose, turned themselves in at approximately 1 a.m. on Sunday. All four suspects have been charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder.
“We were following up on a number of leads that we had, and that’s where they took us,” said Capt. Patrick Yoes, a public information officer for the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office. The suspects’ bonds are set at $1,000,000 each for the first-degree murder charges and $500,000 each for the attempted first-degree murder charges.
