LAPLACE – St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 200 block of St. Andrews Boulevard in LaPlace on Jan. 12 in reference to a report of three suspicious male subjects walking in the area.
The caller told 911 dispatchers he thought the three were the ones who had stolen his truck earlier in the week.
Deputies attempted to talk to the three subjects, but two of them fled in opposite directions. The third subject remained and was detained for officer safety and questioning later.
The second subject, who was later identified as a juvenile, was apprehended by the caller, who said he saw the suspects fleeing, and when the juvenile came toward him, the complainant armed himself for safety and yelled at the juvenile to get on the ground. The juvenile threw a handgun in the nearby pond and then lay on the ground as deputies arrived to detain him.
Deputies located the third suspect at a residence on Pebble Beach Drive. With the cooperation of the homeowner, deputies found him hiding under a bed. Deputies found marijuana in his pocket upon searching.
The first subject was identified as Karron Johnson, 19, of Lutcher. He was arrested and booked with contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. His bond was set at $4,000.
The second subject was identified as a juvenile from LaPlace. He was ordered by the court to be detained and was booked with possession of a handgun by a juvenile, resisting an officer by flight, obstruction of justice by tampering with evidence and aggravated assault.
The third subject was identified as Osborne Kelson III, 17, also from LaPlace. He was arrested and booked with resisting an officer by flight, resisting an officer by violence, contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, possession of marijuana and a fugitive warrant. His bond was set at $8,500.
“The truck reported stolen on Jan. 7 from Pebble Beach Drive was recovered Monday morning in the parish,” said Sheriff Mike Tregre. “These three subjects are suspects in this case and a reported burglary of a residence on Pebble Beach Drive on Dec. 6. Citizens in the area have been very helpful assisting the Sheriff’s Office. I will provide more details when they become available.”
