LAPLACE — New Orleans Saints wide receiver Marques Colston partnered with local non-profit organization Blessed to be a Blessing to host a toy giveaway for 30 children in the St. John Housing Authority.
The event was held on Dec. 20 at Regala Gym in Reserve just before the Christmas holiday. The event began with pizza and drinks before each child received a bag filled with Christmas toys. The children also posed for individual photos with Colston and received a keepsake picture.
“It is truly a blessing to impact a community in this way,” said Colston. He added, “Having the opportunity to provide toys to those who really need them is what Christmas is all about.”
Parish President Natalie Robottom, Councilman District 5 Michael Wright and Councilman District 6 Larry Snyder attended the toy giveaway in support of the program.
“Mr. Colston is no stranger to St. John, and his generosity and humbling demeanor has not gone unnoticed,” said Robottom.
Colston’s wife, Emily, his son, Austin, and his mother, brother and sister were also on hand to distribute toys and pizza.
“It was a pleasure having Mr. Colston and his wonderful family here in St. John Parish to support the youth of our parish,” said Wright.
Eliza M. Eugene, Blessed to be a Blessing president, said it was her goal to make the children feel like they have not been forgotten about as she once felt in her youth.
“Children need to feel encouraged and inspired, especially during Christmas, despite their home or financial situations,” said Eugene. “I was given to, and to whom much is given, much is required.”
