On Friday, Jan. 5, 2013, Peggy Olivier Alvis Pippenger passed away peacefully in her sleep (after a valiant 10-year battle with a debilitating neurological disease) at her home in Sevierville, Tenn. Peg was born and raised in Gramercy.

She was a graduate of Lutcher High School and received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Southwestern Louisiana. She went on to achieve a master’s degree in executive healthcare and nursing administration. Her many professional accomplishments include teaching nursing, director of nurses at St. James Parish Hospital, director of quality care and assurance at River Parishes Hospital and assistant administrator at Chabert Hospital before finally retiring from Earl K. Long Hospital as chief operating officer.

She is survived by her husband, Phillip McKinney Pippenger, and her mother, Esther Bossier Olivier.

She was preceded in death by her father, Pliny L. Olivier Sr., and her siblings Phyllis Robichaux, Pliny Olivier, Marie Olivier, Dr. Richard Olivier, Mary Dornier Edwards, James Olivier and Charles Olivier.

Her children are Todd Alvis (Janelle) with children Kendall, Avery, and Ian; and Trent Alvis (Kimberly). Her stepchildren include Kimberly Pippenger Young M.D. (Patrick) and her children Frederick, Gavin and Robert, Robert Pippenger and Phillip Pippenger II (Hilliary) and children Alexandra, Elias, Jeremy and Asa.

A wake will be held Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Gramercy. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. with interment following at St. Joseph Cemetery in Paulina. Rose Lynn Funeral Services is in charge of the arrangements.
